Everything you wanted to know about Game of Thrones' Kit Harington and Rose Leslie's wedding

For any fans of TV fantasy show Game of Thrones, they will know that weddings are never dull affairs. Both the Red and Purple Weddings ended in tragedy for at least one major character, and the Starks always seem to come out the losers of the situations. Not fearing any such drama from their own wedding, Game of Thrones stars Kit Harington and Rose Leslie tied the knot in a ceremony in Scotland in June 2018. Their wedding featured many stars of the show that they both met on, as well as a few amazing details you’ll not want to miss.

The stars of the show

During a wedding, there are really only two stars of the show, the bride and groom. Although their wedding featured many famous actors, there was no doubt that Harington and Leslie were the focus of everybody’s attention on their special day. The pair met while filming scenes as love interests in the second season of Game of Thrones. The couple hit it off both on and off screen and began dating in 2012, announcing their engagement in 2017. Harington said it became incredibly easy to fall in love with his new wife after admitting already being attracted to her before she was playing his love interest. He and Leslie met while filming scenes in Iceland and Harington said he will have a special place in his heart for the country, he called it a beautiful country, and it was there that he fell in love with his new bride.

The venue

Their wedding reception was held at Wardhill Castle, an ancient castle that Leslie’s family actually owns. Leslie’s family are descendants of King Charles II, the ruling monarch of England and Scotland in the 17th century. Charles II was not the only famous member of Leslie’s family, she is also a descendant of a former Mayor of Mexico City, Don Guillermo de Landa y Escandon.

A family reunion

You can’t have a big celebrity wedding without the lavish guests attending, and there were plenty of big hitters from Game of Thrones attending Harington and Leslie’s wedding. Harington’s character, Jon Snow, has two half sisters, Sansa and Arya Stark, played by Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams who were in attendance. Snow’s half-brother Rob Stark, played by Richard Madden was also there, wearing a traditional Scottish kilt to boot. The other main stars of the show, Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) were also there to witness the pair get married.

A monkey wrench in the works for the show

Harington told the producer of Game of Thrones that the wedding was his fault, after all, if the pair had not been cast together they might never have met. He went on to tell the producer that he would have to factor in a ‘Thrones wedding in the filming schedule as the majority of the cast were likely to be attending the wedding.
Fans of the show will no doubt wish Harington and Leslie a long and happy marriage, there wasn’t even a sign of tragedy on the day, something very unlike Game of Thrones but a good omen for them. Many of the fans of the show will be hoping the cast can enjoy their time celebrating the wedding before getting back on set to bring the final season to our screens as soon as possible.
