Actors who play characters that are meant to be siblings, but fall for each other in real life – it happens more often than you might think . These are the actors who play siblings but were dating behind the scenes…
Katherine Heigl and Jason Behr
Katherine Heigl is the kind of woman that can melt even the coldest of hearts, and there’s just something about her that screams romance. However, it’s fair to say that she took on a brand new role in 1999 in the science-fiction TV show Roswell, in which she starred alongside Jason Behr, playing brother and sister.
But they just couldn’t deny the fact that they were attracted to each other on-set. The pair stole secretive kisses on set during filming, and even dated for a few years.
Chris Pratt and Emily VanCamp
Chris Pratt and Emily VanCamp met in 2004 on the set of the drama show Everwood, and hit it off immediately. We’re not sure how anyone could not love Chris Pratt, but it seems as though Emily loved him more than the rest of us – even though she was technically starring as his sister.
Although their co-stars were a little grossed out to hear they were dating, it soon made sense when they saw them together off camera. They eventually dated for three years, before breaking up in 2007.
Ian Somerhalder and Maggie Grace
Ian Somerhalder has slowly but surely become one of the most eligible bachelors in Hollywood, but he has often been snapped up by some equally desirable actresses. Although fans have always been supportive of his relationships – if a little jealous – they were a little taken aback when he started dating Maggie Grace.
This is because they played step-brother and step-sister on the drama show, Lost. Their odd on-screen relationship must have carried over off the screen, as they ultimately only dated for a few months.
Lauren Graham and Peter Krause
We all know Lauren Graham for bringing the awesome character of Lorelai Gilmore into our lives within the comedy-drama show, Gilmore Girls. Yet, in more recent years, she has worked on a new comedy series by the name of Parenthood.
In this show, Lauren stars alongside her on-screen brother, Peter Krause. Although they were working together as brother and sister, they just couldn’t deny their off-screen chemistry. They have now been dating since 2010 and have become one of the most-loved couples in comedy television.
Selena Gomez and David Henrie
Let’s be honest; we just can’t get enough of shows and movies about witches and wizards. Is an acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry really too much to ask? When The Disney Channel was in its prime, Wizards of Waverly place was all the rage, and Selena Gomez and David Henrie created the ultimate brother-and-sister duo.
It seems as though the producers cast a spell on these two because they actually started dating in 2014. Their magical romance didn’t last too long, though, and they soon parted ways.
Maureen McCormick and Barry Williams
The Brady Bunch is one of the most iconic sitcoms of all time, and will forever go down in history for its characters and its effect on the world. From this show, Barry Williams and Maureen McCormick got their claim to fame, and it seems they also left with a little somethin’ somethin’ extra.
Although they were technically brother and sister on this show, they just couldn’t ignore the feelings they had for each other off-screen. Maureen noted in her memoir that they would often steal a few kisses when the cameras weren’t rolling. So cute!
Nikki Reed and Robert Pattinson
Robert Pattinson is the vampire we all had a crush on during his time in the fantasy franchise, The Twilight Saga. However, it seems we weren’t the only ones who liked his twinkling physique. Nikki Reed, who played Rosalie, was technically Edward’s adoptive sister – so it’s not quite as odd.
Nevertheless, it’s been rumored that the pair had a little fling after their time in the movie franchise. They were spotted together numerous times, and you can’t deny that they do look pretty darn good together. This is one vampire couple we could definitely ship.
Jennifer Grey and Matthew Broderick
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is one of those movies that just never gets old. It’s a classic. Of course, we all know the star of the movie was Matthew Broderick, but it seems he had another star in his eye when he was filming.
Although they played brother and sister, Broderick couldn’t help but fall head over heels for Jennifer Grey. As if that wasn’t romantic enough, the pair got engaged after the film was released, but their whirlwind romance came to a close when they were both involved in an accident while on vacation.
Amy Poehler and Will Arnett
If you’ve seen Blades of Glory, you’ll know that Amy Poehler and Will Arnett played some pretty hilarious (and odd) characters. As a brother-and-sister figure skating duo, their relationship was a little… bizarre. This was mostly because they were a little too close, as proven by their passionate kiss at the end of the movie.
Although it was completely strange, it was made much more normal by the fact that Amy and Will were married at the time of filming. Sadly, these comedy legends have since parted ways and divorced from each other. They were so perfect.
Emily VanCamp and Dave Annable
The eagle-eyed readers amongst you will realize that we’ve already had Emily VanCamp on this list, but it seems as though she really likes dating her on-screen siblings. While she was working on the aptly named sitcom, Brothers & Sisters, Emily sparked a love interest with her on-screen brother, Dave Annable.
In fact, the writers of the show actually completely changed the storyline of this show with a new plot twist that meant the pair were no longer related – which meant they could also date on the show!
Evan Rachel Wood and Shane West
If you cast your mind back to 1999, you might remember the time that a brand new family drama came onto our screens. Yes, we’re talking about Once and Again! This show followed the lives of two divorced parents as they try to find love again – and it’s safe to say that we fell completely in love with Rick Sammler’s two children, Eli and Jessie.
These characters were played by Evan Rachel Wood and Shane West, and they immediately became friends off-screen. This friendship became something more in 2009 when they started dating.
Jamie Lynn Sigler and Robert Iler
The Sopranos was the kind of show that you could watch over and over and not get bored, and we just couldn’t get enough of the brother-and-sister relationship between Jamie Lynn Sigler and Robert Iler. Although they were obviously close on-set, many fans couldn’t help but notice that they were also extremely close when the cameras weren’t rolling.
They were papped together at major events and fans wanted them to date – but Iler eventually refuted the claims and told the press that they were simply “best friends.” What a shame!
Dean-Charles Chapman and Nell Tiger Free
The Game of Thrones family tree is one that has confused us all for years, and it seems as though family relations don’t really matter to some of these characters. Yes, we’re talking about you, Jamie and Cersei.
While we know that Tommen and Myrcella Lannister are siblings – although largely separated from each other – fans were a little overwhelmed when they heard that Dean-Charles Chapman and Nell Tiger Free were dating in real life. This was in 2015, but nothing much has come from their off-screen relationship since.
Jamie Campbell Bower and Lily Collins
If you know nothing about pop culture, you probably wouldn’t have made the connection that Lily Collins is the daughter of the musical genius, Phil Collins! Although she hasn’t followed in her father’s musical footsteps, it’s fair to say that Lily is making an impact on the world of Hollywood.
As if that wasn’t enough, she also made an impact on Jamie Campbell Bower’s life. The pair starred in The Mortal Instruments together as brother and sister, but soon took their relationship away from the cameras and dated in real life. Don’t they look good together?!
Susan Dey and David Cassidy
If you were ever a fan of The Partridge Family, you’d know that Susan Dey and David Cassidy were kind of a big deal. They could sing, they could dance, and they were huge fan favorites. Although the pair worked alongside each other as brother and sister, Susan could not deny the fact that she had a huge crush on David while they were on set.
It seems as though she may have given into temptation for a little rendezvous here and there, but David just didn’t like her as much as she liked him.
Michael Jackson and Latoya Jackson
We know what you’re thinking… these guys are brother and sister! Yes, but there have been instances in Hollywood where siblings are actually called upon to play lovers for the sake of entertainment.
This was the case when Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney were looking for a love interest to star in their music video for “Say, Say, Say.” Although they had a whole wealth of actresses and women from around the world, Michael decided to choose his sister Latoya for the role. It was definitely a strange casting, that’s for sure.
Jason Bateman and Justine Bateman
The Jacksons weren’t the only brother and sister to get it on for the sake of television. As the star of the sitcom, Arrested Development, Jason Bateman had to interact with countless actors and actresses on set, but we bet he had no idea he would have to date his own sister.
When Justine Bateman was cast as a lady of the night in this television series, the producers decided that it would be a good idea to make her Jason’s love interest. Is that weird? We definitely think so.
Shannen Doherty and Jason Priestley
If you’re a fan of TV drama shows, you’ll know that Beverly Hills, 90210 was kind of a big deal. Although the modern adaptation was hugely popular, nothing could compare with the epic ‘90s teen drama and the awesome cast. In this show, Shannen Doherty and Jason Priestley played brother and sister. In fact, they were twins!
Despite this little nugget from Walsh family tree, Shannen and Jason couldn’t keep their hands off each other while filming season one, so they eventually made it official and dated in real life for that whole season.
Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter
If you’re a fan of gory crime shows, then there’s a high chance you’re pretty darn obsessed with Dexter. In this show, Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter play brother and sister, but it seems as though all of those hours on set helped these two actors get closer and closer.
They soon started dating and even got married, but things just weren’t meant to be. They eventually divorced in 2011, but still had to work together. Awkward.
Blake Lively and Penn Badgley
Let’s be honest, the relationship between Serena Van Der Woodsen and Dan Humphrey kept us all on our toes. They were a couple, then they were brother and sister, they were a couple and brother and sister at the same time, and then who the heck knew what was going on.
They were the couple we all wanted to stay together, and they made the dreams of every single Gossip Girl fan come true between 2007 and 2010 when they were not only a couple on screen but also a couple in real life. We loved it, XOXO Gossip Girl.
